A Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax) flies past with wings raised in a strong, deliberate upstroke, showcasing the broad wings and splayed primary feathers that allow it to soar efficiently over open savannas and semi-arid plains. Widely distributed across Africa and parts of South Asia, this large eagle is highly adaptable, often seen alone or in pairs scanning the ground from the air or from elevated perches. Its diet is opportunistic and varied, ranging from small to medium-sized mammals, birds, reptiles. and insects. The also eat a surprising amount of carrion and are known to steal food from other raptors when the chance arises. This image captures both the power and versatility that have made the Tawny Eagle a successful hunter and scavenger across its expansive range.
