My passion is wildlife photography. While my favorite subject for shooting is parrots in the wild, I am more than happy to take images of anything that moves. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and even insects and other invertebrates are all animals that I am more than happy to see and photograph. Thus, I am not a "birder", and I am not a bird photographer. I am a wildlife photographer.
My photography subjects can be found near home, but I also must travel to see parrots and other animals not found nearby, and, thus, I have photographs of animals from North America, Central America, South American, Africa, and Australia.
As a neurosurgeon, I am a perfectionist, and I do not like making mistakes. For this reason, I like my images to be scalpel sharp (not tack sharp!). My goal is to take images that show interesting animal behavior and interactions. Sometimes, however, I am so taken with the beauty of an animal, that I think a simply shot showing this is more than adequate.
My photographs have been accepted into the Top 100 and Top 250 of the National Audubon Society's Annual Photography Contest and have been featured in the Society's Annual Calendar. In addition, my images have been shown in the North American Nature Photography Association Showcase competition, and in the Share the View Photography Contest. One of my photos was on the cover of Wildlife Photographic magazine when I was the edition's Featured Photographer.
As I feel strongly that my images do not serve much purpose sitting on my computer, I donate my images to conservation NGOs. They have been used by the Nature Conservancy in their promotional materials, by the World Parrot Trust in their quarterly magazine and in their annual calendars, and similarly by the Macaw Recovery Network.
