A Great Black Hawk cuts through the air with broad wings spread wide. Widespread from Mexico through Central America and much of South America—and recently expanding into the southern United States—this adaptable raptor thrives in forests, wetlands, mangroves, and coastal areas. An opportunistic hunter, it feeds on everything from reptiles and birds to fish and crabs.
