A female Peregrine Falcon powers through the air with her prize—a Bonaparte’s Gull clenched firmly in her talons. The falcon's broad wings and muscular build allow her to subdue agile, fast-flying prey midair. As this image shows, most falcons eat primarily birds that are caught in flight. This female is actually carrying the gull to her nest cave as food for her nestlings.
