An Aplomado Falcon (Falco femoralis) perches atop a thorny bush, surveying its surroundings with an alert, upright stance and a keen, watchful gaze. Strikingly patterned with a dark cap and mask, pale throat, and finely barred underparts, this slender falcon is well adapted to open grasslands, savannas, and arid scrub across parts of the Americas.
