The striking Crimson-bellied Parakeet showcases its vivid red belly and colorful green cheeks while perched on a branch. This stunning bird, also called the Crimson-bellied Conure, also has the scalloped chest plate characteristic of most members of the genus, Pyrhurra. This Brazilian endemic is certainly one of the most beautiful of South American parakeets. The species is a popular pet, but the population is little affected by poaching for the pet trade. The population is decreasing due to habitat loss in its Amazon basin habitat.
