This Short-eared Owl was taken on the Galapagos Islands. It is quite a bit darker in color than the Short-eared Owls that I have seen in the States. As they spend much of their time hunting lizards and small birds on the volcanic rock of the islands, I imagine that they have gradually become darker to better blend in with their surroundings.
