Barn owls are nocturnal hunters, and are, thus, hard to catch while hunting. The owls start hunting before sunrise and retire soon after sunrise. Thus, the window of adequate light for flight shots is very narrow, indeed. I was lucky to catch this owl on the hunt just prior to its retiring into the tree for the day.
