A Red-spectacled Amazon Parrot is perched on a rugged Araucaria branch, skillfully holding an Araucaria seed in its foot. These parrots are quite dependent on the seeds of these trees in the non-breeding season. As the number of trees decrease due to logging and clearing for farm land, the parrot's population is also falling. Both the tree and the bird are threatened with extinction. Restoration of the Araucaria forests is the most important step in saving both species. This parrot shows off its vivid combination of red and green colors.
