A Scaly-headed Parrot is captured feeding on a ripe star fruit while perched among lush green leaves of the star fruit tree. The parrot's subtle but beautiful plumage features a blend of green and blue hues. This parrot is also called Maximillian's parrot, named after an unfortunate Spanish governor of colonial Mexico. Star fruit is not native to Brazil, where this image was taken. However, we saw a few Scaly-headed Parrots feeding on these fruits, showing that these parrots were more that willing to adopt this fruit into their diet. The star fruit, with its distinctive shape and bright color, adds an appealing contrast to the parrot's feathers.
