This action image captures a Great Green Macaw fly towards me. The light coming from the back shines through its tail feathers, making them glow. The macaws have larger heads and beaks than their similar in appearance cousin, the Military Macaw, thus the name, "Great". The slightly pink bare facial skin is seen well. Bare skin on the face is a hallmark of macaws. These macaws are disappearing from the wild due to habitat loss and are currently listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCS Red List. Conservation efforts are in place that will hopefully increase the wild population of this large and impressive macaw.
